Truckee Silent Movies

Before Spotify and YouTube, in the early age of the phonograph and the radio, music was more special than it is now.   People had to play it.  Every family, town and circle of friends had someone who could sit at the piano and tinkle out a tune.   When you went to the movies,  only the picture was canned - music was live.    Truckee Silent Movies brings back a dream of that age.   We show hilarious silent movies and accompany them with live music and sound effects.   The movies are poignant and hilarious - and out of copyright!  Many were filmed right here in Truckee.    A night at the silent movies is an experience for all ages and the whole family.  You won't soon forget it.

Our main showings are at the charming Church of the Mountains.     The original church was built in 1869 and still has its bell from 1889.   You can ring the bell after service on Sunday mornings.   The church has been refurbished a number of times (notably in the 1950s they decided to add a foundation!).    It was designated a Historic Landmark in 2023.  COM celebrates God, community and the Arts (and has a lot of fun while doing so).

Our musicians don't have much of a resume.  Our pianist calls herself "Dr. Kuzma," but in reality her PhD is in Geophysics.   All she's got is street cred - literally.   Most of her piano hours are from playing the  Truckee piano on the sidewalk downtown.    Stop by on Saturday mornings outside Bud's Ice Cream to sign the piano and make sure her playing is up-to-snuff.
